Sallee & Udell

Bert and Betty Udell started their Happy Valley Tree Farm with the purchase in 1964 of a regenerating cut-over goat and sheep pasture. They became committed Tree Farmers, planting and growing trees for timber or Christmas trees to produce an income to pay the taxes and to improve the stewardship of the land. The Sallee’s, Udell’s daughter and son-in-law, joined them in purchasing other tracts of timberland over the years. They all learned to love the land and the forest that grew to cover it.
In 1982 the Udell’s were selected as National Tree Farmers of the Year. This honor reflected their careful stewardship of the natural resources they cared so much about. The Sallee’s continue to manage the forestland, ensuring that the forest remains sustainable and productive. Besides producing timber, the properties are used by Boy and Girl Scout summer camps, 4-H clubs and local school outdoor classes. Wildlife is abundant on all the properties.
The firewood we sell comes from the portion of the trees that could not be used for lumber. Your purchase will help the landowners continue their stewardship of the land and forest.
